Prometheus
IPF Metrics Processor produces metrics in a Prometheus format under the HTTP endpoint /actuator/prometheus. It is expected that a Prometheus instance will scrape this endpoint periodically - The suggested scrape frequency is 15 seconds or less.
For visualisation of these Prometheus metrics it is recommended to use a tool such as Grafana. See the Grafana page for more information.
Caveats
Time Accuracy
Prometheus will scrape the exposed metrics endpoint, by default /actuator/prometheus, at set intervals, e.g. every 30 seconds.
The implication of this is that metrics scraped from IPF Metrics Processor, such as a count of finished payments, will not reflect the exact count at an exact given time.
Example: Ten payments complete successfully at 12:00:00, and IPF Metrics Processor updates its count of finished payments to 10.
Prometheus scrapes the endpoint some time later, e.g. if configured to scrape at 30 second intervals it may scrape at 12:00:30.
Prometheus stores the count at 12:00:30, despite those payments actually finishing at 12:00:00.
